In Record-Breaking Achievement, US Grants Over 90,000 Student Visas to Indian Applicants in Three Months

US issues record 90,000 student visas in India in three months

The United States has set a new milestone in its educational relationship with India by granting a remarkable 90,000 student visas during the summer months of June, July, and August. The US Embassy in India proudly announced this achievement, underscoring the significant role played by Indian students in pursuing higher education in the United States.

This surge in student visas was somewhat anticipated, as the US Mission had previously indicated its projections at the outset of the student visa application season. Brendan Mullarkey, acting minister counselor for consular affairs in India, highlighted in June that the previous year had seen a record-breaking issuance of 125,000 student visas to Indian students, surpassing all other nationalities.

With the issuance of over 90,000 student visas this summer, it's evident that the United States is poised to set a new record. Currently, more than 200,000 Indian students are enrolled in American academic institutions, constituting over 20% of the international student population in the US.

In a significant move to strengthen educational cooperation, India and the US have decided to establish a virtual institute, as announced through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This initiative emerged following a bilateral meeting between US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G20 Summit held in New Delhi earlier this month.

The India-US Global Challenges Institute will operate in the virtual realm and conduct research in emerging areas across partner higher education institutions from both countries. This development reflects the commitment of both nations to foster collaboration in the education sector.

For aspiring students seeking educational opportunities in the United States, there is a valuable resource available in the form of ‘Education USA.' EducationUSA is represented by accredited US educational institutions and boasts eight advising centers across India.
