Prabhas to clash with Shah Rukh Khan: Salaar vs. Dunki on Christmas 2023
Get ready for a cinematic showdown this Christmas as two of India's biggest stars, Shah Rukh Khan and Prabhas, are set to clash at the box office. Prabhas' highly anticipated film, “Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire,” has officially locked in its release date for December 22, 2023. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan will be starring in “Dunki,” directed by Rajkumar Hirani, which is also scheduled for release on the same day. The news was confirmed by renowned film trade analyst Taran Adarsh, who tweeted about the epic face-off, stating, “Yes, it's true… SRK Vs Prabhas, Dunki Vs Salaar this Christmas… The exhibitors have received a mail stating that #Salaar will arrive THIS CHRISTMAS [on 22 Dec 2023]… An official announcement by the producers, #HombaleFilms, will be made on Friday [29 Sept 2023].”
“Salaar,” directed by the talented Prashanth Neel, was initially slated for release on September 28. However, recent reports had suggested that the film might not see the light of day this year at all. Some speculations indicated a potential 2024 release date. The delay in release has prompted various theories, with VFX work being one of the rumored reasons for the postponement. It appears that the film's team is dedicated to delivering a top-notch cinematic experience and is meticulously working on the finishing touches.
On the other hand, “Dunki” marks a historic collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan, Rajkumar Hirani, and Taapsee Pannu. The film also features Vicky Kaushal and Dharmendra in pivotal roles, making it a star-studded affair. Shah Rukh Khan, speaking at a press event, expressed his excitement for the upcoming release, stating, “God has been very kind. We started on January 26, Republic Day (with ‘Pathaan'). Now New Year and Christmas are around the corner, we will release ‘Dunki.' I keep National integration. Anyway, when my film is released, it is Eid. I'm working hard; I'm working harder than I worked in the last 29 years.”
Interestingly, this clash between Prabhas' “Salaar” and Shah Rukh Khan's “Dunki” marks the first time that Prabhas and Hombale Films will be competing at the box office. Previously, they faced off when Shah Rukh Khan's “Zero” and Yash's “KGF: Chapter 1” were released on the same date, December 21. While “KGF” garnered a massive fan following, “Zero” struggled to find success at the box office.
