Rohit Sharma's Entry into ‘100 Club': : Dhoni & Kohli's Rank

In a historic moment at the ICC World Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma, the dynamic Indian cricket captain, etched his name alongside legends like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Kapil Dev by making his 100th appearance as India's skipper. This remarkable milestone was achieved in the 29th match of the tournament when India, the host nation, faced off against England at the iconic Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

With this achievement, Rohit Sharma became the seventh Indian captain to lead the team in 100 international matches. In doing so, he surpassed the esteemed records of former captains Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar, who led the Indian team in 98 and 84 matches, respectively. This exclusive “100 club” of captains includes cricketing legends like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Kapil Dev, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid.

Among these luminaries, it's worth noting that MS Dhoni stands out as the only captain to secure victories in all major ICC tournaments, including the ICC World T20 in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2023. His captaincy legacy spans a staggering 332 matches, with 178 wins and 120 defeats during his tenure.

Virat Kohli, another cricketing stalwart, led India in 213 matches, overseeing 135 wins and 60 losses. However, what sets Rohit Sharma apart is his extraordinary win percentage as India's captain. Before the clash with England at the ICC World Cup, Rohit had already secured 73 victories while leading the team, with 23 losses and 2 drawn matches. This impressive record translated to a phenomenal win percentage of 73.73, making him the most successful captain in the international arena.

In addition to his leadership prowess, Rohit Sharma displayed his exceptional batting skills on matchday 29 of the ICC World Cup 2023. During this crucial encounter, he crossed the 18,000-run mark in international cricket, becoming the fifth Indian cricketer to achieve this milestone. The elite club of 18,000-run scorers includes legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, and Virat Kohli. Rohit reached this feat in his 477th innings and further solidified his reputation as one of India's premier cricketing icons.

In this high-stakes match against England, Rohit Sharma also showcased his batting brilliance by scoring his 54th ODI half-century. He notched up 87 runs from 101 balls, a performance that earned him the “Player of the Match” title. This impressive display contributed to India's total of 229-9 in 50 overs, emphasizing Rohit's significance as a key player in the team's quest for victory at the ICC World Cup 2023.

With his captaincy legacy, incredible batting achievements, and unmatched win percentage, Rohit Sharma continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the world of cricket, setting the stage for India's promising journey in the ODI World Cup and beyond.
