Snap Names Ex-Google Pay Exec Pulkit Trivedi as India Head

Snap Inc. has appointed Pulkit Trivedi, a former high-ranking executive at Google, as the Managing Director for its India operations. In his new role, Trivedi will oversee Snap's endeavors in India, which encompass generating revenue, supporting partners, and nurturing the creator ecosystem. The company has introduced a fresh operational structure where the growth, market development, partnerships, content, and creator ecosystem teams will directly report to Trivedi.

Trivedi's previous experience includes a five-year tenure at Google, where he led the India Business Team for Google Pay. He was responsible for devising strategic plans, establishing crucial partnerships, and spearheading the growth of the business. Trivedi will report to Snap's APAC President, Ajit Mohan, who joined the company from Meta last year.

The modified structure is designed to demonstrate Snap's dedication to the Indian market and its commitment to crafting unique experiences for its rapidly expanding user base. Mohan expressed confidence in Trivedi's ability to drive significant growth for both the community and partners.

Snap's move to consolidate its local teams under this new arrangement is expected to facilitate increased investments in India, further catalyzing the growth of its user community and partnerships. Previously, the role of India Managing Director was held by Durgesh Kaushik, who left the company last year.

In May, Snap announced surpassing the milestone of 200 million monthly active users in India. Notably, more than 120 million Indian Snapchatters engaged with content through stories and the user-generated content feature called ‘Spotlight'.

Snap has been actively engaged in initiatives within India. It introduced the Snapchat Sounds Creator Fund, aiming to support emerging independent artists. The company also introduced parental control tools in India to enhance the user experience.

Snapchat faces competition from platforms like YouTube, Instagram, ShareChat, and Moj in the video content domain in India. In the digital advertising space, its rivals include Google, Facebook, Twitter, and ShareChat.

Snap Camera India, the Indian branch of Snap Inc., witnessed a notable increase in profits. Its profit after tax (PAT) more than doubled year-on-year, reaching INR 6.22 crore in the financial year 2021-22. This impressive performance was accompanied by a revenue increase from INR 32.7 crore in FY21 to INR 65.87 crore in FY22.
