Is John Ternus going to be Apple's next CEO?

Tim Cook, Apple's current big cheese, is getting close to retirement age. At 64, folks are wondering who's going to fill his shoes. According to a recent report from Bloomberg, John Ternus, the Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering at Apple, might just be the top pick.

So who's this John Ternus guy anyway? Well, he's been with Apple for over 23 years and currently heads up hardware engineering. He's had a big hand in creating some of Apple's most famous gadgets,, like the iPhone, iPad, and AirPods. Plus, he's been leading the charge in shifting the Mac over to Apple Silicon, which is a pretty big deal.

Before joining Apple, Ternus worked as a mechanical engineer at Virtual Research Systems. He's got a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

While Ternus is gaining traction as a potential successor, some had their money on Jeff Williams, Apple's Chief Operations Officer. But at 61, Williams might be seen as a bit too close to retirement age by Apple's board of directors, who are looking for someone to steer the ship for at least another decade, like Jobs and Cook did.

There are a few other names in the mix, like Craig Federighi, Dan Riccio, Deirdre O'Brien, and Phil Schiller, but they're not seen as likely picks for the top spot.

As Apple mulls over its next leader, Ternus and Williams are in the spotlight. Transitioning to a new CEO is a big deal, especially for a company as big as Apple. But with experienced leaders like Ternus in the mix, Apple looks like it's set for a smooth transition.
