ISRO's Aditya-L1 Solar Mission: Launch Date, Time & Where to Watch

Get ready for an exciting space mission as India's ISRO gears up to launch the Aditya-L1 solar observatory on Saturday, September 2. The spacecraft will be sent into orbit using ISRO's PSLV XL rocket, taking off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

SRO Website: Tune in to the official ISRO website (https://isro.gov.in) for a direct live stream of the Aditya-L1 mission

ISRO Official YouTube Channel: You can also experience the event on ISRO's official YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/watch?v=DLA_64yz8Ss), where the live stream will be broadcast.

The Aditya-L1 is a pioneering project for India, focusing on studying the Sun from a distance of 1.5 million kilometers. This space-based observatory will offer invaluable insights into our closest star. Renowned former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan expressed his enthusiasm, emphasizing the significance of this study mission.

Initially, the spacecraft will enter a low-earth orbit, and its orbit will later be adjusted to become more elliptical. As it moves closer to its destination at Lagrange point L1, the point where the gravitational forces between the Earth and the Sun balance out, it will depart from Earth's gravitational influence. This marks the start of the cruise phase, which will lead to the spacecraft being positioned in a large halo orbit around L1. The journey from launch to L1 will span about four months.

If you're eager to witness this historic moment, ISRO has extended an invitation to the public. You can register to be a part of the live event at the Sriharikota launch center. The registration link will be available starting Tuesday, August 29, at 12 p.m.

The Aditya-L1 mission holds several significant scientific objectives, including examining the dynamics of the Sun's upper atmosphere – the chromosphere and corona. This mission will help us better understand processes like chromospheric and coronal heating, the behavior of partially ionized plasma, the origin of coronal mass ejections, and solar flares.

Moreover, Aditya-L1 will provide crucial data about the Sun's particle and plasma environment. This information will contribute to studying particle dynamics originating from the Sun. The mission also aims to uncover the mysteries surrounding the Sun's corona and the mechanisms responsible for its intense heating.

By observing the plasma in coronal loops, the mission seeks to gather insights into their temperature, velocity, and density. It will delve into the development, dynamics, and origins of Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs), crucial for understanding solar eruptive events. Additionally, the observatory will help map the magnetic field topology and measure the magnetic fields in the solar corona.

Ultimately, Aditya-L1's findings will play a pivotal role in understanding space weather and its drivers. This includes unraveling the origin, composition, and dynamics of the solar wind – a key influencer of space weather conditions that impact Earth and its technology.

So, mark your calendars for this extraordinary launch and a journey of scientific exploration into the heart of our solar system.
