Israel orders ‘complete Gaza siege', no power, food in response to Hamas attacks
Israel has taken a strong stance in response to recent attacks by Hamas terrorists. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced on Monday that the country would be imposing what he referred to as a “total blockade” on Gaza. This blockade includes a ban on the entry of food and fuel into the area. The decision follows a complete blackout in Gaza, as Israel cut off its electricity supply to the region in response to Hamas' attacks on Saturday.

Gaza has been under various levels of blockade by both Israel and Egypt since 2007, when Hamas seized power from rival Palestinian forces. This recent move to intensify the blockade came after a three-day conflict between Israel and Hamas, which tragically resulted in the loss of over 1,100 lives on both sides. Israel reported more than 700 casualties, including 44 soldiers.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war on Hamas, pledging to eliminate the terrorist group's hideouts. Meanwhile, Gaza endured relentless Israeli airstrikes, leading to reports of at least 493 deaths.
On a different front, US President Joe Biden expressed his support for Israel in the face of what he described as an “unprecedented terrorist assault by Hamas.” He ordered additional assistance for Israel, including the deployment of the USS Gerald R Ford aircraft carrier and a group of warships to the eastern Mediterranean. Additionally, Washington announced plans to bolster fighter aircraft squadrons in the region.
These developments mark a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, with both sides taking increasingly assertive measures.
