Israel Expresses Strong Disapproval of Donald Trump’s ‘Hezbollah’ Comment Amidst Hamas Attack: Labels It ‘Shameful’

Israel Criticizes Donald Trump's ‘Hezbollah' Remark Amid Hamas Attack

In a surprising turn of events, former US President Donald Trump recently made comments that have garnered widespread condemnation, particularly from Israel. Trump suggested that had he been in office, the US would have been able to detect and prevent the terrorist attack that occurred in Israel. These remarks have sparked outrage and disbelief in many quarters.

Israel, on Thursday, expressed strong disapproval of Trump's remarks. The former president's comments included praise for the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah and criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the context of the ongoing conflict. Israeli officials labeled Trump's statements as “shameful” and “unreliable.”

Israeli authorities were quick to react, with one government representative stating, “It is shameful that a man like that, a former US president, abets propaganda and disseminates things that wound the spirit of Israel's fighters.” Trump made these comments during a rally in West Palm Beach, where he went on to blame Israeli and US government officials for exposing Israel's vulnerabilities, which, in his view, led to Hezbollah's attack. He even described Hezbollah, a sworn enemy of Israel, as “very smart” in his speech.

Furthermore, Trump asserted that had he been the president at the time, the US would have been able to identify and prevent the terrorist attack in Israel. These statements were met with significant criticism and concern from various quarters.

The White House deputy press secretary, Andrew Bates, reacted strongly to Trump's remarks, referring to them as “dangerous and unhinged.” He questioned the wisdom of anyone, especially an American, praising an Iran-backed terrorist organization as “smart.”

The criticisms didn't stop there. Several of Trump's rivals in the Republican political arena also voiced their disapproval. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis commented, “It is absurd that anyone, especially someone running for President, would choose this moment to attack our friend and ally, Israel, and even praise Hezbollah terrorists as ‘very smart.'”

Former Vice President Mike Pence joined the chorus, stating, “This is no time for any former president or any other American leader to be sending any message other than ‘America stands with Israel.'”

As these controversies unfolded, the Israel-Hamas conflict continued to intensify, entering its seventh day. The death toll on both sides has surged past 2,800, and the situation remains grim. The conflict began when Hamas militants launched a surprise attack on Israel, citing a longstanding dispute over the Al-Aqsa Mosque, a site of immense significance to both Muslims and Jews. In response, the Israeli military has initiated a series of relentless airstrikes.

Tragically, citizens from various countries residing in Israel have become victims of the escalating conflict. The United States, in particular, has reported 25 of its citizens confirmed dead, with an additional 17 Americans missing, according to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The situation remains deeply complex and fraught with challenges, and it is imperative for all parties involved to prioritize diplomacy and peace in the pursuit of a resolution.
