ISKCON Sues Maneka Gandhi for False ‘Cow Selling' Allegations

In a recent turn of events, BJP MP Maneka Gandhi has found herself at the center of controversy due to her statements about ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness). Gandhi claimed that ISKCON was involved in the sale of cows to butchers, a statement that has sparked outrage among I devotees worldwide. In response, ISKCON has taken legal action, serving a defamation notice of ₹100 crore to Maneka Gandhi.

ISKCON's vice president, Radharamn Das, expressed deep disappointment over Gandhi's remarks and vowed to pursue the case until justice is served. He questioned the authenticity of Gandhi's claims, emphasizing that she provided no concrete evidence to support her allegations.

Additionally, Das pointed out that Gandhi's supposed visit to the Anantpur gaushala, where she claimed to have witnessed these activities, remains unverified as the gaushala staff cannot recall her visit. This has raised doubts about the accuracy of her accusations.

The controversy escalated further when a video featuring Maneka Gandhi as an animal rights activist went viral. In the video, Gandhi labeled ISKCON as the “biggest cheaters” in the country, alleging that they establish gaushalas (cow shelters) and exploit government benefits while selling cows to butchers. Gandhi's visit to the Anantpur Gaushala

supposedly revealed that no dry cows were present, implying that all cows had been sold for slaughter. She insinuated that ISKCON was responsible for selling cows to butchers on an extensive scale.

ISKCON swiftly issued a statement in response to the viral video, vehemently denying Gandhi's allegations. They asserted their longstanding commitment to cow and bull protection, not only in India but also globally.

According to ISKCON, they care for cows and bulls throughout their entire lives and do not engage in their sale to butchers. ISKCON also highlighted its role in promoting cow protection in regions where beef consumption is common.

In India, ISKCON operates over 60 gaushalas, safeguarding sacred cows and bulls while providing them with personalized care. Many of these animals were rescued from abandonment, injury, or the threat of slaughter.

Furthermore, ISKCON has initiated training programs for farmers and rural households on proper cow care techniques, with the aim of reviving the traditional culture of cow worship and care. Their dedication to cow welfare has earned recognition and praise from the government and Goshala associations.

ISKCON expressed its surprise at Maneka Gandhi's statements, as she has been known as a prominent animal rights activist and a supporter of ISKCON. They invited Gandhi to visit their facilities and witness firsthand the exceptional care provided to cows and calves.

To further shed light on the matter, ISKCON monk Amogh Lila Das released a video showcasing the care and attention given to calves at ISKCON's facilities. He clarified that visitors often overlook the section where calves are kept and encouraged Gandhi to witness their care personally.

In conclusion, the controversy surrounding Maneka Gandhi's allegations against ISKCON has escalated to legal action, with ISKCON vehemently denying any involvement in the sale of cows to butchers. They continue to champion cow and bull protection, caring for these sacred animals throughout their lives and contributing to the revival of cow worship traditions in India and beyond.
