In a heartbreaking turn of events, Varun Raj Pucha, a 24-year-old Indian student, tragically lost his life after a brutal stabbing incident at a fitness center in the US state of Indiana. The fateful incident took place at a public gym on October 29, where Varun was brutally attacked by a 24-year-old assailant named Jordan Andrade. The reasons behind this shocking act of violence are still under investigation by the authorities.

Valparaiso University, a private educational institution located near Chicago, expressed its profound sorrow in an official statement. The university community mourned the loss of one of its own, offering their condolences to Varun's family and friends.

Following the assault, law enforcement promptly arrested the attacker, who now faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and attempted murder.

As Varun's family and loved ones grappled with the devastating news, the university pledged to support them in every way possible during this difficult period. They also announced a service of remembrance and memorial for Varun, scheduled to take place on November 16.

Varun Raj Pucha had embarked on his academic journey in the US in August 2022, working towards an MS in Computer Science. His aspirations included returning to his family in Khammam after completing his course the next year.

Tragically, Varun's condition did not improve after the vicious attack. He remained unconscious at a hospital in Fort Wayne, with limited movement on just one side of his body.

With his parents and the rest of his family residing in India, Anile Balleboyne, one of Varun's few relatives in the US, spoke about his dreams and the promise he brought to Indiana. Varun had moved to the United States with aspirations of securing a good education as well as providing both financial and emotional support to his family back in India.

In response to this tragedy, the North American Telugu Society launched a GoFundMe campaign, which has already raised $90,000 to assist Varun's grieving family during this trying time.

The untimely loss of Varun Raj Pucha has left a void not only in his family's life but also in the hearts of those who knew him. The pursuit of a brighter future and the dream of supporting his loved ones have been tragically cut short, reminding us all of the importance of fostering a safe and inclusive environment for students and individuals alike. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Varun's family, and we hope for their healing during this incredibly challenging period.
