Uttarakhand Rescue Operation

In a heartening conclusion to the challenging two-week-long rescue operation in Uttarakhand's Silkyara tunnel, Australian tunneling expert Arnold Dix has emerged as the unsung hero, providing crucial technical support on the ground. The successful evacuation of all 41 trapped workers has not only earned praise for the authorities but has also highlighted Dix's instrumental role in the rescue efforts.

The Australian High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, expressed his commendation for Arnold Dix, acknowledging the significant technical support he contributed. In a tweet, Green lauded the achievement and specifically credited Professor Dix for his essential role in the successful evacuation.

Social media users also recognized the spiritual aspect of Professor Dix, noting his participation in prayers alongside a priest at the rescue site. Messages of gratitude and admiration flooded social media, with users expressing appreciation for Dix's remarkable and invaluable efforts in ensuring the safe rescue of the laborers.

One user wrote, “Thank you so much respected @Arnolddix sir for your stunning job in rescuing all the laborers safely. Kudos to your outstanding and priceless fruitful efforts.”

Another user saluted Arnold Dix as the “only Australian who gave us good news this November,” emphasizing the positive impact of his involvement in the rescue operation.

During an update on the rescue efforts, Arnold Dix shared a unique perspective, describing the mountain as a protective force for the trapped workers. He expressed, “It's the will of the mountain which will decide when and from which door those people come out,” highlighting a spiritual connection to the rescue mission.

Norway's Ambassador to India, May-Elin Stener, also extended congratulations to the rescue team and expressed relief at the successful extraction of all trapped workers. Stener's message on social media conveyed well-wishes for the good health of everyone involved in the operation.

The rescue operation faced its challenges when a portion of the tunnel collapsed on November 12, trapping 41 laborers inside. The breakthrough came on Tuesday evening when the drilling through the rubble was completed, and an 800-900 mm pipe tunnel successfully traversed the debris, marking the end of the arduous rescue mission.
