Revolutionizing Commuting: Delhi Government to Introduce Online Bus Ticketing on WhatsApp

WhatsApp may soon allow travelers to book bus tickets in Delh

In a bid to enhance the convenience of travel, the Delhi government is gearing up to introduce an online bus ticketing system through WhatsApp.

Following the success of the Delhi Metro's WhatsApp ticketing feature, the Transport Department plans to extend this digital facility to cover both Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses.

This move is part of the government's broader initiative to digitize the entire bus travel experience, providing commuters with a hassle-free alternative to traditional ticketing methods.

Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot expressed optimism about the forthcoming digital ticketing system, highlighting its potential to simplify the journey and enhance transparency in the process.

Building on the success of the Delhi Metro's WhatsApp-based ticketing system, the Transport Department aims to offer a similar service for DTC and cluster buses.

The convenience and efficiency of this system have already been proven with the success of the Delhi Metro's implementation earlier this year in May. The extension of this service to buses will further streamline the ticketing process for public transport users across the city.

To avail themselves of this innovative service, commuters can follow a few simple steps once the system goes live:

1. Send a message with the text ‘Hi' to +91 9650855800 on WhatsApp.

2. The chatbot will provide information on bus routes, fares, and other relevant details.

3. Commuters can select their preferred bus and proceed with the payment process.

4. The ticket service supports payments through UPI, credit/debit cards, and other available methods.

5. Alternatively, passengers can scan the provided QR code for a seamless ticket purchase experience using their smartphones across the entire network.

6. While the new system offers a user-friendly experience, it comes with a few limitations. Cancellations will not be allowed, consistent with the policy of WhatsApp ticketing.

Additionally, there will be a marginal convenience fee for credit or debit card transactions, while UPI-based transactions will not incur any additional charges. Users should also note that there will be a cap on the number of tickets one can generate online.

For those looking to book metro tickets online, the process is equally straightforward. Save the number +91 9650855800 to your phone, open WhatsApp, send a message to the number, type “Hi” in the chat window, select your preferred language, and choose the “Book Ticket” option.

Alternatively, you can scan a QR code at any metro station or purchase mobile QR tickets through various apps such as DMRC Travel, DMRC Momentum 2.0, PayTM, Ridlr, and PhonePe.

As the Delhi government embraces digital solutions for public transport, these initiatives aim to make commuting more convenient and efficient for the residents of the city.
