CID's Actor Dinesh Phadnis, Passes Away

In a tragic turn of events, the beloved actor Dinesh Phadnis, renowned for his role as Fredericks on the iconic Sony TV show CID, passed away on Tuesday at midnight due to complications arising from a liver issue. The somber news was confirmed by his co-star from CID, Dayanand Shetty, who shared, “Dinesh breathed his last at 12.08 am.”

Dinesh Phadnis had been undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Tunga Hospital, and earlier reports suggesting a heart attack were clarified by Dayanand Shetty. He revealed that Dinesh was, in fact, suffering from liver damage, dispelling any misconceptions about a cardiac event. Shetty emphasized the critical nature of Phadnis' condition, stating, “For the last two days, he has been very critical. Today morning (Sunday) also I've learned that there's been no major improvement. We're hoping he gets better soon.”

The actor's health had been a matter of concern, with initial reports incorrectly speculating about a heart attack. Shetty urged caution with medications, sharing insights on how the treatment for another ailment adversely affected Dinesh's liver. He emphasized the need for careful consideration when taking allopathic medicines.

Dinesh Phadnis, who portrayed the endearing CID officer Fredericks alongside Shivaji Satam and Aditya Shrivastava, brought humor to the show. Reflecting on how he secured the role, Dinesh mentioned in an interview, “I remember I was struggling for roles, and wherever I went to seek work, I met B P Singh (producer of CID). I am not aware if it was sheer luck or coincidence. Finally, he asked me if I wanted to join CID, and that's how my journey began.”

The actor's contribution to CID, which initially lacked humor, made him the perfect choice for the role of comic relief. Dinesh expressed gratitude for the positive response from the audience, making him a beloved character in the long-running series.

Despite the challenging circumstances, Dayanand Shetty shared that the CID team maintained a close bond, describing them as ‘thick and close.' The cast and crew often reunited, fostering a strong connection among them.

Dinesh Phadnis, with his portrayal of Fredericks, became a household name during his nearly two-decade stint on CID. The show, led by Shivaji Satam as ACP Pradyuman, became one of India's longest-running television series, airing for 20 years on Sony TV. In addition to CID, Dinesh made cameo appearances in the popular TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and had small roles in Hindi films like Sarfarosh and Super 30.

As we bid farewell to Dinesh Phadnis, his legacy lives on through the laughter and joy he brought to countless fans as Fredericks on CID.
