Diwali 2023: The Festival of Lights

Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is one of the most cherished Hindu festivals, celebrated with immense enthusiasm. This year, Diwali falls on November 12, marking the victory of good over evil and the triumph of light over darkness. The festival spans five days, commencing with Dhanteras and concluding with Bhai Dooj. Diwali falls on the 15th day of the Kartik month according to the Hindu Lunar calendar, coinciding with the darkest night of the year.

Legend has it that on this auspicious day, Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya with Mata Sita and his brother Lakshman after completing his 14-year exile and vanquishing the King of Lanka, Ravana. Hindus celebrate Deepavali by adorning their homes with an array of lights and diyas, crafting beautiful Rangolis, indulging in delectable sweets, visiting the homes of friends and family, exchanging heartfelt gifts, donning new traditional attire, and engaging in various customs and rituals.

Diwali 2023 Schedule: Diwali, or Deepavali, is a movable festival that typically falls between mid-October and mid-November, determined by the Hindu lunisolar calendar. This year, Diwali lands on November 12, with a delightful five-day celebration leading up to it:

  1. November 10: Dhanteras
  2. November 11: Choti Diwali
  3. November 12: Diwali and Lakshmi Puja
  4. November 14: Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj
