Who is Canadian singer Shubh, and why is he controversial?

Shubhneet Singh, widely known as Shubh, is a talented Punjabi singer hailing from Canada. However, his upcoming concert in Mumbai has been met with opposition and controversy due to alleged ties to separatist Khalistani groups. Let's delve into the details of this unfolding situation.

Shubh was all set to grace the stage in Mumbai from September 23-25 as part of the Cruise Control 4.0 event, which was to be held aboard the Cordelia Cruise. Unfortunately, this event has hit a roadblock as members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) have vehemently objected to Shubh's presence. Their main contention is that he has expressed support for Khalistani elements and shared a distorted map of Kashmir.

Shubh has been making waves in the music industry, gaining popularity not just in India but across the globe, thanks to hit songs like “Elevated,” “OG,” and “Cheques.” In fact, his music even caught the attention of former Team India captain Virat Kohli, who was seen dancing to Shubh's “Elevated” in a viral video. However, amid the controversy, Kohli, along with KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya, decided to unfollow the singer on Instagram.

This controversy erupted during Shubh's ‘Still Rollin India Tour,' a three-month-long tour covering 12 major Indian cities, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, New Delhi, and Mumbai, among others.

The opposition against Shubh in Mumbai may not be an isolated incident, as it stems from a social media post where the singer shared a distorted map of India that excluded Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir. This post triggered outrage, especially since it came at a time when Punjab Police were actively searching for a fugitive named Amritpal Singh. Consequently, many of Shubh's followers expressed their concerns, and even the Akali Dal raised questions about the potential implications for innocent youths.

Tajinder Singh Tiwana, President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), has been vocal in expressing his stance on the matter. He stated, “There is no place for Khalistanis, who pose a threat to India's unity and integrity. We will not permit Canadian singer Shubh to perform in the revered city of Mumbai, associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. If the appropriate actions are not taken, the event organizers will have to confront our opposition.”

In response, the BJYM has submitted a memorandum to the Mumbai Commissioner of Police, demanding stringent action against Shubhneet Singh and the cancellation of all his scheduled performances. An FIR should be filed against the rapper, they've also demanded. The situation remains tense, with the controversy surrounding Shubh's alleged affiliations continuing to draw attention and debate.
