Chandrayaan-3: Aug 23 Declared National Space Day by PM Modi

In a significant development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a special announcement during his visit to the ISRO Command Center in Bengaluru. He personally congratulated the team of scientists involved in the Chandrayaan-3 mission and shared some exciting news. August 23 will now be celebrated as National Space Day in honor of the successful Moon landing achieved by Chandrayaan-3. This announcement was met with applause as Modi addressed the talented minds at the ISRO command center.

The Prime Minister's visit to the Telemetry Tracking and Command Network Mission Control Complex was a momentous occasion. Not only did he extend his heartfelt congratulations to the Chandrayaan-3 team, but he also revealed the names designated for specific lunar points. The spot where Chandrayaan-3 gently touched down on the Moon's surface will be known as ‘Shiv Shakti.' Additionally, he named the location where Chandrayaan-2‘s unfortunate crash landing occurred in 2019 as ‘Tiranga.'

Modi expressed his deep appreciation for the integral role played by women scientists in the Chandrayaan-3 mission. He believed that the recognition of the ‘Shiv Shakti' point would serve as an inspiration for upcoming generations to utilize scientific advancements for the betterment of society.

Highlighting the significance of the mission's success, the Prime Minister praised the ISRO scientists for embracing the ‘Make in India' initiative, taking it all the way to the moon. This achievement not only marks a monumental success for India but also positions the nation as a key player in space exploration.

Modi's visit to Bengaluru followed his diplomatic tour to South Africa and Greece. His emotional connection to the Chandrayaan-3 team was evident in his speech, where he expressed his eagerness to meet them. He acknowledged that, even though he was in South Africa during the mission's touchdown, his thoughts were with the team throughout the event. He had watched the live stream from Johannesburg, where he was attending the 15th BRICS summit from August 22-24.

The successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 not only brings pride to the nation but also harbors great potential for increased investments in private space launches and satellite-based ventures, as experts predict.

With this achievement, India has solidified its position as the first nation to reach the near vicinity of the Moon's south pole and the fourth nation to successfully land a spacecraft on the lunar surface. The significance of this accomplishment extends beyond borders and sets the stage for even greater advancements in space exploration.
