Chandrayaan-3 Makes History: Most-Watched Live-Stream

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has etched its name in the digital record books, achieving a remarkable feat on YouTube‘s live streaming platform. On August 23, 2023, the Chandrayaan-3 Mission Soft-landing LIVE Telecast mesmerized an impressive audience of over 8 million peak concurrent viewers (PCVs). This lunar mission marked India's third venture into space exploration and garnered worldwide attention as enthusiasts and curious minds alike tuned in to witness the crucial moments of this groundbreaking endeavor.

Chandrayaan-3 Mission soared to the zenith of peak concurrent viewers, eclipsing notable events like Brazil vs Croatia football match from the FIFA World Cup 2022 with 6.1 million PCVs, the Brazil vs. South Korea football match from the same tournament with 5.2 million PCVs, and the even the Carioca 2023 Serie A semi-final between Vasco da Gama and Flamengo with 4.7 million PCVs.

This triumphant feat places Chandrayaan-3 Mission alongside other remarkable global occurrences such as SpaceX's Crew Demo-2 with 4 million viewers, the viral K-pop sensation BTS's ‘Butter' Official MV with 3.7 million viewers, and the high-profile Johnny Depp v Amber Heard Defamation Trial with 3.5 million viewers.

In response to this momentous accomplishment, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally congratulated ISRO Chairman S Somanath during a telephonic conversation. Currently attending the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, PM Modi conveyed his commendations and expressed his intention to visit ISRO's headquarters in Bengaluru to personally felicitate the entire team. In a light-hearted exchange, he quipped, “Somnath Ji, your name is Somnath, associated with the moon, and therefore your family members will also be overjoyed today. Many congratulations to you and your entire team from my side.”

The Chandrayaan-3 Mission follows in the footsteps of the Chandrayaan-2 Mission in 2019, which encountered setbacks with the Vikram Lander crash on the lunar surface. This achievement propels India into the ranks of distinguished nations that have achieved successful moon landings, placing it fourth in line after the United States, China, and Russia. However, India's triumph stands out as it becomes the first nation to land a spacecraft on the southern hemisphere of Earth's solitary natural satellite.

ISRO's successful Chandrayaan-3 mission not only cements India's position as a significant player in space exploration but also showcases its growing technological prowess on the global stage. The world watched in awe as India's lunar aspirations touched new heights, inspiring dreams of even more extraordinary achievements in the realms of science and space.
